Similarities in the Structural Organization of Complexes of tRNAs with Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetases and the Mechanism of Recognition
Abstract
In this paper and those by Schulman, Ebel et al., and Hecht (all this volume), the question of recognition and how it is achieved are discussed. This paper focuses mainly on the recognition of tRNAs by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. Ebel et al. and Schulman also consider this issue. Some of the other interesting questions are taken up by Schulman and by Hecht.
The problem of how synthetases recognize tRNAs has attracted a great many investigators. Apart from the obvious importance of the problem, its popularity is not hard to understand. Because tRNAs are low-molecular-weight, well-characterized nucleic acids, they are attractive, defined objects for experimental study. In addition, with such a large number of different synthetases and tRNAs available, it is...
